Please BRING BACK HIDDEN TABS in Fullscreen Mode!

Why, oh why would you make tabs always visible in fullscreen mode in
the latest update???

That's the whole reason i started using iterm2 in the first place -
unobstructed, non-distracting full-screened terminal goodness.

At least make it an option as it was before! It makes no sense to me
that you would remove the users' ability to do something that already
existed before.

IMHO this makes iterm2 less of a pro solution now, and more of a
cookie cutter OSX terminal app.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, bring back toggleable hidden
tabs in fullscreen.

You can toggle them with cmd-shift-T.

A lot of people have been surprised and it's not easy enough to find the
option to toggle it, so maybe I'll bring back the hold-cmd thing to avoid
this pain.

The hold cmd to show them was the best part of iterm ;(

Now there's just no visual indicator of where you are when you switch
tabs.

I purposely have NOT upgraded and wont until the hold-cmd comes back.. I
don¹t want to have to toggle.. I just want to hold command.. Switch tabs
and go.....
Im with many others.. One of the reasons I chose iterm2 was because I
could do a completely full screen terminal experience...
One of the reasons I ditched windows and bought a MacBook Pro was because
of iterm2 and its ability to give me that "4 square" terminal experience
with no scroll bars, toolbars, etc.. Yet still give me the advnatages
Of a tabbed, windowed experience when I need it.. I say you make it an
option to set in prefs... How tough can it be to make it optional?

Agreed. I also downgraded immediately once I saw this behavior. To be
fair, though, we should probably stop piling on George. The poor guy has
already indicated he would bring it back :)

What I'd really like is a tiling window manager for OS X, so I can
integrate other windows and keyboard focus control into the
fullscreen. But I'm guessing this may be impossible. The OS X window
system doesn't give a way for one program to take over the window of
another one, does it?

Yes, but not in any sort of clean way. I looked into this because I wanted
to duplicate the "Aero Snap" functionality from Windows on the Mac. The
Accessibility API is promising, but in the end is a bit too limited to do
everything that needs to be done. In particular, a "GNU Screen for OS X"
would require us to be able to remove the window decorations from a given
window and control any actions the user may perform on that window using the
mouse or relevant menu items. Sadly, this is not supported by Apple. You
could PROBABLY write a Haxie to do it, but you'd be going down a long and
lonesome road :)

look for DoublePane.app, at least it's something..

i've also been looking into building awesome wm on my gentoo prefix
installation. trying to live primarily in X11.app on OS X should prove to be
an interesting experience..

for OSX tiling, I have been using Divvy - simple and does what I want

with Lion, I only use Divvy for my multi-screen desktop setup

for a single-screen mbp, it's much easier to use Mission Control with
full-screen, after Spaces-order adjustment via command-tab (Lion took
away explicit Spaces mapping)

Let me also say, for the record however, what an awesome app iterm2 is
otherwise.

Nothing else even comes close for OSX. Please don't stop the
phenomenal work!

I want to second that... I *love* iTerm2 - thank you very much for such a
GREAT tool!

Just a quick note: This latest update which I just installed is now
preventing iTerm2 from starting...
I've deleted the preferences file from Library/Preferences and still
crashing.
Here's the trace dump: http://tinypaste.com/9c86b4 -- seems like it has
something to do with Growl, however the other apps that use Growl work just
fine.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Boris

The growl crash is due to a bug in the autoupdater. Reinstall and you'll be
good.

I would appreciate that! I've been less productive since its
departure. Discovering this cmd-shift-T option is helpful but it's not
as fluid IMO.

Sorry for the bump, but can you please add something for the ones of use
that never want to see tabs in fullscreen? Currently the only option is to
bump the hold-ctrl timer all the way to 10 seconds (who holds ctrl for 10
seconds to see anything?)

Would be nice to just have a checkbox to disable them in fullscreen
completely, and allow them to be shown with ctrl+shift+t.

Thanks for the great software.

I kind of want to get rid of the hold-cmd-to-show-tabs thing. It was a hack
I put in when I didn't really know how iTerm or Cocoa worked. I'll ask
around and see if folks are fond of it.

I'll reply in here just to throw my voice in, it would be great to
have this feature back (even if it were optional). It would also be
great if their appearance delay could be made even shorter.

I'm with terminalator though, in any event, iTerm 2 (and even the
original iTerm) are still the best and possibly most useful app
currently available for OS X. Quicksilver is probably the only thing
that even comes close to the same level of usefulness and works-like-
you'd-expect-it-to-ness.

Ok, I promise to bring back hold-cmd :)

I too would like to have a tiling window manager, but my sense is that it
would be impossible. OTOH, if you could open an iTerm2 pane with a Chrome
browser window in it, that would be close enough for me since I only use two
apps anyway. File that under "distant future features".
